Retorical question

What do you do when you extend the proverbial olive branch in a relationship, only to have that branch thrown in the fire? I suppose thats not quite so retorical since I’m going to answer it. About the only thing you can do is wash your hands of it and go on your way with a clear conscience. Such is life.

Have you ever…

… made a comment and had the other person reply in a strange manner. Upon further reflection of that response, realized that the other person had taken your comment for a fairly sophisticated joke when no joke was intended. I’m not quite sure what that says about me you.

Miller really IS that bad

The College group at one of my past churches had a party to welcome in the new freshmen. We had beer-battered fish tacos. I only mention this because the leader gave me the leftover beer to hide from the pastor take home. It was budweiser. I was pretty sure beer was nasty at the time, but I decided to try it anyways. It really WAS that nasty. Yucky, who can drink that stuff. Anyways, it took me a few years to recover from that experience.

My hotel (I’m in Boston right now) offers free breakfast and dinner, and the dinner has a choice of beer and wine. They had Miller Genuine Draft on tap, and I thought that I should give that cheap and mass produced nastyness a second chance. I could barely force that crap down. Who drinks that stuff???? Boston has great beer in general, why did the hotel settle for that crap?

It’s the price, stupid!

My mother was reflecting on the difficulty in San Diego in selling you home. It was her opinion that the problem was a high level of inventory. To be sure, that is an issue. In my view inventory is an effect, but it is NOT a cause. In San Diego, the root cause is that sellers and buyers have much different ideas on the value of a home. In San Diego, the price is the product expected appreciation, and the expense of credit.  Credit has gotten a bit more expensive over the last 2 years and expected appreciation has also taken a hit.

Selling your house is not difficult, just lower the damn price!!! My mother, who I love dearly, retorted by saying that you don’t want to give away the house. WTF!!??!? Comments like that just make me blink and drop my jaw. It’s especially galling coming from someone who didn’t have enter the traditional workforce since moving to San Diego. Yes, my father raised three kids on a single income. From one side of her mouth she claims that you don’t want to give away the house, and the other side of her mouth is saying that she doesn’t mind that her prosperity is financed on the back of the children she raised. It would take a dual engineers salary to achieve the same quality of life she raised her children in. I’m not the nicest person, and I sometimes I have no problem saying what I mean. For all you homeowners who think that selling at at 90% profit instead of a 100% profit consitutes giving away your home, kiss my ass. I am NOT playing your silly game.

My Gothic Goddeses

Amy Lee is hot, so, so hot. She’s hot and goth, the best combination known to man. Amy Lee is the lead singer for Evanescence, my favorite band of the last few years.

Eva Green is by far the hottest actress around. She is just crazy hot in her slightly gothic dress:

How you know you are going fast

Yesterday I went up to Breckenridge to go snowboarding. The best time to go fast is in the early morning while the slopes are still groomed. If you wait too long then you will be going over patches of ice. Next, you need to find a run that is just steep enough to allow you point that board downhill without gathering that ‘oh my god i’m gonna die’ speed. Next, you need to just charge that hill with no fear.

Now, you have a recipe for a serious speed run.

You know you are going really stinking fast when the wind starts to blow the beanie off your head, or when your helmet starts to lift. This is another good reason to wear helmets. Helmets won’t fly off your head due to the chin strap. It’s no good to have to decide between slowing down or loosing that beanie.

Another good indicator of going really really fast is when you catch air going over a  part of the run where the terrain steepens.

So far, I’ve never fallen going really really fast. Some thoughts are not good to dwell on. I’m pretty sure that it wouldn’t be nearly as bad as crashing on my motorcycle.

I had a little bit too much fun in the Wax Museum that’s in Niagara Falls. Something must be wrong in my head. How else can you explain my sudden urge to feel up Jennifer Aniston?
